In Roman times, what is now Franche-Comté was part of the city of Sequanes. Our knowledge of these territories is based on a few textual sources, but above all on archaeological data, which has increased in number in recent years. Archaeological digs and surveys (particularly aerial surveys) are providing us with a new overview of the settlement networks in these regions, particularly around Dole. The aim of this conference is to present the state of our knowledge of these data: networks of settlements (from the capital of a city to small roadside settlements), sanctuaries, but also the extreme density of agricultural establishments that dot the area.
